Lucid Gravity Is Ice Drifting Its Way To SUV Stardom
Lucid Gravity, the electric SUV that promises to redefine what SUV means, has taken a chilly detour to Alaska before it eventually arrives at the dealerships. Why the freezing cold north? Lucid was putting the Gravity through its paces, testing its resilience and snapping some Instagram-worthy shots of it drifting in the snow.
Alaska Is The Ultimate Testing Ground
There are few places on our lovely planet that automakers treat as the ultimate playgrounds. When it comes to testing extreme weather performance, Alaska is probably the best location. Lucid engineers were forced to brave the icy conditions while fine-tuning Gravity’s braking, traction control, and stability control systems. And let’s not forget the most important – the heating system that promises to keep you toasty, even in the middle of Alaska.
Judging by the photos Lucid shared with its fans, not all is hard work. The spectacular drifts in the snow suggest that Gravity is not only safe but also downright fun to drive. According to the company, the engineering team is aiming for the kind of agility and responsiveness you’d expect from a hatchback while maintaining the practicality of a seven-seat SUV. Carving corners with a full crew onboard will be an interesting experience.
Safety First, Fun Second
Fun aside, Lucid knows very well that most Gravity owners won’t push their SUVs beyond grocery runs and occasional trips to the park. However, the company understands that when something unexpected happens, we drivers want a car that reacts instinctively and always keeps the driver in control.
There’s no denying that Gravity is shaping up to be a formidable competitor, and not just in the electric SUV market. With a starting price under $80,000, it promises a lot of luxury and performance without trying to break your bank account. The suggested 0 to 60 mph time in around 3.5 seconds and range of over 440 miles pits the Gravity squarely against the Tesla Model X.
The air is so thick with anticipation that you could almost slice it. The Gravity could be the car Lucid desperately needs to attract a new wave of customers. There’s nothing wrong with the Lucid Air; arguably, it is the best sedan out there, but not that many people buy sedans these days. An electric SUV that handles like a much smaller car, is fun and safe to drive, and has enough range for a decent road trip? The official debut can’t come soon enough.
