Mate Rimac’s Personal Nevera Is The Sleekest Car We’ve Ever Seen
Bugatti-Rimac CEO Mate Rimac may have launched Rimac Automobili in 2009, but he’s just now taking delivery of his own personal fully-electric Nevera hypercar. While it might seem like a long time for a founder and CEO to get their company branded car, anyone who sees Rimac’s Nevera will know it was worth the wait. It’s hands-down the sleekest car we’ve ever seen.
A Singular Design
While Aston Martin Chairman Lawrence Stroll recently declared that consumers are not interested in buying electric supercars, it’s clear that Rimac disagrees with that sentiment. We also disagree with him after laying eyes on this beauty.
Rimac’s Nevera features an entire carbon body tinted in red. Custom Nevera badging with red anodization aesthetically complements its design. According to a press release from the automaker, the CEO chose these features to display his car’s “natural materials in all their beauty.”
Rimac’s custom design required the fibers to flow in a particular way across the Nevera’s body that would highlight its geometry. Realizing such an intricate design took the utmost care. To create the look of an unbroken carbon fiber flow, Rimac’s team meticulously cut each body panel to be “millimeter perfect” for a placement that could achieve the vehicle’s unique finish.
Rimac Wanted His Car To Tell A Story
The automaker states that its CEO wanted his car to be more than just a striking high-performance vehicle. He wanted it to tell a story. Beyond his Nevera’s eye-catching, asymmetrical black and red trim, Rimac also customized it with personal motifs. Among those motifs is an embroidered Solinjanka. Rimac states that a sculpture inspires this embroidery design in an Archeological Museum in Croatia’s capital, Zagreb.
The CEO said of his creation process, “It’s kind of a crazy experience to be a customer of your own company, and I probably wasn’t the easiest customer either. Just like with all our customers – there was a process of co-creation: sharing ideas, evolving them, and then finally perfecting them until you have a Nevera that stands alone and speaks to you personally. The result not only looks great, but it tells an important story for me.”
The Design Is Born Of An Insider’s Vision
Unsurprisingly, the man who knows the Nevera hypercar inside and out would have a singular vision for how he wanted to personalize his car. Thankfully for Mate, Rimac Automobili offers various customization options, meaning what the CEO envisioned for his vehicle could be vividly realized in carbon fiber and metal without missing a beat.
Adding to his Nevera’s personal touch is that all its components are made in-house in Croatia. The automaker has a machine shop that produces intricate metal parts, a PaintShop for applying flawless finishes, and a trimming area. Rimac’s top-notch design team oversees all these processes, ensuring every custom design vision becomes a reality.
It’s Full of Bespoke Motifs
The CEO has a patriotic flair. He had Rimac’s design team paint Croatian flags onto his Nevera’s side mirrors by hand. Another intriguing motif is the custom lightning design under the car’s rear spoiler. According to the automaker, the lightning theme is a homage to storms along Croatia’s coast. Rimac says that their CEO loves his home country so much that he even refused to move his business to another country during its challenging first years, even though investors made lucrative offers for him to do so.
According to the automaker, the Nevera’s cabin also features bespoke motifs. Hand stitching adorns the armrests, headrests, and knee cushions. Rimac can also laser-etch particular messages into a metal plate mounted on the bulkhead. The automaker states that the interior metal surfaces, such as door handles, steering wheel buttons, and infotainment controls, feature anodization, giving the cabin a one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
New Bugatti To Follow
As exciting as this announcement is, it’s not the only recent hypercar news involving Mate Rimac to be excited about. Last month, the Bugatti-Rimac CEO teased that a new V16 engine is on the horizon for the automaker. According to Rimac, this new sixteen-cylinder beast will measure 39.3 inches. He also shared that this new engine will not use forced induction. So, Bugatti’s latest offering will not come with a turbocharger.
Some in the auto industry speculate that this new V16 will have an 8.3-liter displacement. This new powertrain’s combustion side alone could generate up to 1,000 horsepower. This means that between its electric motors and combustion components, Bugatti could produce a car that produces up to 1,800 hp. The automaker had previously stated that this new V16 will be “Incomparable in every detail.” The automaker is earning that slogan.
