Range Rover Electric

A Royal Spark: Range Rover Goes Electric

Range Rover, the epitome of British automotive luxury and off-road skills, is swapping gasoline for electrons with its first-ever fully electric SUV. Gone are the boxy Range Rovers of yesteryear and the rumbling V8s and frugal diesels. Range Rover promises that the new electric SUV is a whole new animal.

A Silent Roar

As we are inching toward the official unveiling of the first electric Range Rover, the company’s marketing machine has come to life. The latest information promises an entirely different approach to electric power. The Range Rover Electric — as it is called — isn’t about sipping electrons and saving the planet. No, this is a performance powerhouse with an in-house-developed electric propulsion system.

This translates to a smooth, silent driving experience yet capable of tackling the toughest terrain — be it icy roads in the Arctic or scorching deserts in the Middle East. This Range Rover has been put through its paces and survived the most demanding tests. If we take the marketing team’s word for it, the new generation is a real Range Rover. Hill climbing in the morning, champagne and opera in the evening.

There’s more to the new Range Rover than meets the proverbial eye. The company has tasked Elysia, Fortescue’s battery technology arm, to develop cutting-edge software to boost Range Rover EV’s driving range. Charging times have apparently greatly improved, and overall battery reliability has significantly increased. More miles on a single charge and less time at a charger – music to the ears of any EV enthusiast.

A Modern Classic

Looking at the first official photos, it is impressive how Range Rover managed to create such a technological marvel while keeping it true to its roots. All that tech hides under a body instantly recognizable as a Range Rover. The boxy silhouette, luxurious interior, sleek lines, and minimalist aesthetics are coupled with a cabin that promises to be as quiet as a library. Talking about blending tradition with innovation.

True to Range Rover’s spirit, the new electric generation can wade through 33.5 inches of water — that’s deeper than the GMC Hummer EV. The new traction control system takes full advantage of almost instant torque changes from the electric motors, giving the car grip in even the most slippery conditions.

Range Rover Electric is expected to launch later this year, and it is safe to assume it won’t be a budget-friendly electric car. It’ll be joining the growing ranks of luxury electric SUVs, and yet it is so much more than just another SUV. It’s a statement piece, a bold move from a legacy automaker that wants to show how electric cars should be done.
